Oliver Jörger interviewed by “exclusive Bauen & Wohnen”

Oliver Jörger, Managing Director, Designer, JÖRGER Armaturen-und Accessoiresfabrik GmbH

Oliver Jörger is the managing director of JÖRGER Armaturen-und Accessoiresfabrik GmbH. The graduate engineer manages the family-owned company from Mannheim in the fourth generation. He has been personally responsible for Jörger design as a designer for many years.

The following interview was first published in German on the website of the Austrian trade magazine on 6 April 2021.

The company.

“exclusive Bauen & Wohnen”: Would you give our readers a brief glimpse into your company’s history? How long has it existed, how did it come to be, and what characterises it?

Oliver Jörger: The history of our family-owned company’s long tradition begins with my great-grandfather Bernhard Jörger, who equipped the bathrooms of noble families at the court of Elector Frederick II of Baden as master court tinman. In 1909, he and his father Albert, my great-great-grandfather, founded JÖRGER Armaturen- und Accessoiresfabrik.

Our current alignment was based on my father Gerhard Jörger’s work, however. His specialist knowledge as an engineer and his sense for style and design set new standards. He created his own designs for bathroom fittings, connecting highest craftsmanship and technical quality with special aesthetic claims.

This is the tradition I follow as well. I am leading a company that started out as a crafts business and that has become an internationally active design company in the fourth generation now. We design, develop, produce, and sell our high-quality bathroom fittings and accessories in-house. That is our unique selling point. I have been personally responsible for Jörger Design for more than two decades, a task that I find fulfilling and that gives me joy.

Highest quality.

“exclusive Bauen & Wohnen”: What is the secret behind the high Jörger quality?

Oliver Jörger: Our true secret is experience. Our employees, some of whom are working in our company in the second generation, characterise the all-determining quality from design, to selection of the substances and materials as well as suppliers in Germany, to the various steps of in-production and final inspections.

Great diversity.

“exclusive Bauen & Wohnen”: Jörger is known in particular for its bathroom fittings and accessories series. Please explain to us what makes them special.

Oliver Jörger: We generally offer high-quality bathroom fittings and accessories for high-quality bathrooms. Outstanding design, high-quality craftsmanship in production, and consistent customer focus are particularly important to us in this context. This gives us a diverse range in order to meet the customer’s wishes and live up to their ideas of the bathroom of their individual dreams with customised solutions. Customising is accordingly important to us.

Diversity begins in the very design of fittings, and continues in different fitting models, e.g. for the washbasin, within a collection. Another example would be accessories designed to match. For example, we continually expand our offering of free-standing accessories as an alternative for the models intended for wall mounting, always based on the respective series.

Diversity determines our range where surface and finishing options are concerned as well. Surface selection always remarkably characterises style. Colours with a glossy or matte finish are design elements that can essentially influence the appearance of any fitting or accessories series.

We are expanding our range there constantly as well. We only recently introduced the trendy matte gold colour with a warm gold shade that we call “Gold matte (.021)”. This addition now gives our customers seven galvanically gilded surfaces to choose from, including the very attractive rose-gold finish.

Customising really comes in where refining of surfaces is concerned. Many things can be made possible upon specific customer request to turn a bathroom into a piece of art where every detail is just perfect.

The diversity we can achieve is represented by our four design styles: modern and minimalist, classical and elegant, luxurious and avant-garde, romantic and nostalgic. This allows us to match the preferences and tastes of different cultures around the world as a design manufactory.

Going through the world with open eyes.

“exclusive Bauen & Wohnen”: Where do you find inspiration for your fitting designs?

Oliver Jörger: The industry and the opportunity of designing and producing products that are as beautiful as they are useful are fascinating. They are propelling me forward every single day. In a way, I am always looking for inspiration, and keeping my eyes open as I move through the world. My aesthetic sources of inspiration include the beauty of nature, extraordinary architecture, and the harmony of geometrical shapes.

“exclusive Bauen & Wohnen”: How do you proceed when you have a new design idea for a bathroom fitting?

Oliver Jörger: The bathroom fitting – and the washbasin single-lever mixer or the three-hole fitting in particular – are at the core of any draft. However, bathrooms also include fittings for the shower, the bathtub, and the toilet and bidet areas. We design and produce those bathroom products subsequently as well.

Experiencing Jörger.

“exclusive Bauen & Wohnen”: Where can interested builders or renovators buy Jörger products?

Oliver Jörger: A brand like ours – and this is particularly important to me – can only be bought from sanitary specialist trade. Fitters and end customers alike will find the best technical consulting offer there, from planning of their bathrooms all the way through implementation. They can also look at our products “live” there.

I recommend that everyone looking to plan a new bathroom or to renovate an existing one have a look at our website www.joerger.de for inspiration and information.
